Description: 250 yd. SW of Saddle Gate (county boundary), Thornworthy tributary of West Lyn. Looking NW (downstream). North Exmoor floods, 1952. The picture shows the largest peat rafts carried during the floods of August 15-16. These must have floated downstream at least 300-400 yards. The geologist is standing on the surface of the alluvium in front of a raft which is about 12 yards long x 5 yards and nearly 5 ft. high.
