Description: Quarry about 1/4 m. N. of Aylesford. Looking W. Gravels of the 50 ft. terrace of the River Medway. Rocks from all parts of the Medway drainage basin are found in these gravels. Angular and subangular flints form the largest proportion. The larger, partly rounded, fragments to be seen in the photograph are of ragstone and chert, from the Hythe Beds, while the finer constituents are Wealden siltstone pebbles and sand, together with small rounded Chalk pebbles. The torrential character of the bedding points to a rapid accumulation of the gravels.
