Description: Temporary section along A4042, near Goytre Hall. Glacial till, Usk Valley. Temporary section (3.4 m. high) of typical supraglacial (ablation) till or sandy boulder clay laid down by the Usk Valley glacier during the Pleistocene. A well-marked colour zontation is evident with a 0.3 m. leached grey zone at the top passing down into buff and brown and red-brown layers beneath, to a relatively unweathered dull red and pink zone in the basal 0.3 m. The clasts are angular to subangular and in the centre of the photograph are concentrated into a stone band. The matrix is a gritty sandy clay to clayey loam with chips and small stones; areas and layers of orange-red relatively stone-free till alternate with more stony till. The till becomes more winnowed and less clayey towards the top and varies from a stony sandy loam at the surface to a stony clayey loam at the base.
