Description: Bridford Mine, Christow. Looking N. Bridford Barytes Mine. Barytes occurs in the group of north-south lead veins on the right bank of the Teign. The mineral was originally worked in the quarry, shown here. The country rock of Culm shales, with nearly vertical dip, is traversed by barite veins over a width of 40 ft. Only the wider veins were worked. Some veins (showing white) can be seen on the right of the quarry face.
