Description: Hemerdon Ball, Plympton. Looking SW. Hemerdon Wolfram Mine. Attempts were made to work the tin-wolfram stockwork during the 1914-18 war, and the deposit was again brought to a producing condition in the 1939-45 war. The deposit, however, is of low grade and not an economic proposition under normal peace time conditions. The view here shows two benches of the openwork developed in 1943 and 1944. The quarry shown in A8149 is just beyond the clump of trees. The windlass on the right is at a 60 ft. prospecting shaft.
