Description: The Holman-Mitchell table, a modification of the gravity table in which flotation is employed for the removal of sulphides. It is claimed that sulphides can be removed at a coarser stage in dressing of tin ore than can be achieved by ordinary flotation, whilst tin losses are lower. The concentrate from normal sand tables is classified and the coarse spigot product is treated on the Holman-Mitchell table after being conditioned with suitable reagents in the machine below the cone classifier (seen top of picture), and thinned with water. From holes in a series of perforated pipes arranged above the table deck, at right-angles to the ripples, low pressure air jets produce a series of waves in the water film which enable oiled sulphide particles to be carried to the tailings side (right) of the table, while unoiled particles, mainly cassiterite, are conveyed by the vibration of the table to the concentrate end (in foreground).
