Ore from Wethered Shaft is conveyed by overhead ropeway to the structure beside the headgear and fed to the ore bin. The roof of the mill is seen beyond. The building on the right is the hoisting-engine house. For hoisting men, the skips are replaced by cages. (Atlantic Ocean in background.) The Geevor Mine has had a long history of expansion. As recently as 1974 it was decided to sink the sub-incline shaft from 15 Level near Victory Shaft to run beneath the Levant. Work started in 1975 and was completed to 19-Level in 1979 including deepening of the Victory Shaft. The Levant Mine was dewatered to the 278 fathom level and to 302 fathom level in 1982. The Levant Mine extended well under the sea. |
