Caption: Abergavenny. Looking NNE.
Description: Abergavenny. Looking NNE. Abergavenny. View looking north-north-east from Llanfoist to the town of Abergavenny across the Usk Valley. The town is situated at the confluence of the Usk and Gavenny valleys. The Gavenny Valley is a wide, broad valley now occupied only by a small misfit stream, but which is thought to have been the preglacial course of the Afon Honddu. The hills to the east (Skirrid Fawr) and west (Deri) of the town are in Senni Beds, the lower ground is in St. Maughan's Group. The low ground in the central part of the photograph consists of fluvial and fluvioglacial gravels.
