Description: Drake's Leat, Roborough Down. Looking S. Local water supply: leat. A leat constructed by Sir Francis Drake near the end of the 16th century to convey water from the River Meavy (a tributary of the River Plym) on the west side of Dartmoor for supplying Plymouth. It is over 10 miles long, 2? ft. deep and 7? ft. wide. The sides are supported by granite slabs set vertically.
