Description: High Field Spring North opencast site, 250 yd. S. 38 degrees W. High Field Farm. Looking WNW. Opencast coal series. Drainage in the final cut on an opencast site. After removal of the Furnace Coal from the final cut a drain is laid at the bottom of the solid face to collect the water from the unconsilidated backfilled material. This drainage is necessary to prevent access to water to colliery workings.
