Description: Stainborough Fold opencast site, 500 yd. N. 35 degrees W. Stainborough Fold. Looking N. Opencast coal series. Forward preparation - shot firing. A 30 ft. high face of sandstone (Parkgate Rock) is being blown by gelignite in 50 ft. long horizontal holes. The Parkgate Coal has been removed from the hollow in the centre of the photograph. On the left is a tip of sandstone from the open cut.
