The viewpoint is on the crest of the Lower Greensand escarpment. The wooded country of the foreground and middle distance is on Weald Clay, the hilly ground beyond being on the Hastings Beds, and forming country locally known as the 'High Weald'. The somewhat uneven surface of the field in the foreground is due to slipping of the Weald Clay which here occupies a position fairly high up on the scarp face. |
