Description: McGhie's Quarry, Kirkby Thore, 1 1/4 m. NNE of Kirkby Thore Station. Looking N. A depression in the surface of the Gypsum Bed. A striking feature is the preservation of the dark 'cap' at the top of the bed on the sides and floor of this channel. It appears to be due to solution of the main part of the Top Post (the banded Yard Post is visible more or less intact below) under considerable load which included progressive collapse of the gypsum above the solution level.
