Description: Cormorant Rock, 1/2 m. N. of Aberystwyth. Looking N. Sea stack on shore-platform, cut in Aberystwyth Grits. The whole view, except the nearer part of the distant cliffs (north of Clarach Bay), which consists of Glacial Drift, is set in the Aberystwyth Grits, regular alternations of evenly-bedded grits and shales of Llandoverian age. The discontinuity of the grits in the foreground is due to small dip-faults. In the Cormorant Rock (Craig-y-Filfran) the smooth dip-slope contrasts with the jagged scarp on the left.
