The cliff, covered with yews and junipers, is formed of beds belonging to the Upper Caninia Zone (C2). The upper half of bracken-covered slope on the left is occupied by Triassic Conglomerate ('Dolomitic Conglomerate'), the lower half by Carboniferous Limestone. Broadfield Down is seen in the distance.
