Description: | N. of Westward Ho! Looking N. The pebble ridge or 'Popple' at Westward Ho! This ridge of pebbles is a nearly straight bank, a mile and a quarter in length, seven feet or more above the level of the salt-marsh behind and 10 to 12 feet above the sands on the sea side of it and from 15-20 paces in breadth. This great natural embankment has been formed by the currents acting against elevated land contemporaneous with the 'Raised Beach', the old sea cliff lying over a mile inland. |
