Description: | Between Little Garter How and Cockley Beck Gill, Duddon Valley. Looking SE. Compound ignimbrite unit. The 0.5 m. thick ignimbrite in the centre of the photograph is separated from a lower one of 0.1 m. of laminated volcaniclastic sandstone. The darker fiamme are flattened to give the ignimbrite a eutaxitic fabric parallel to its base, the fiamme are concentrated near the base of the ignimbrite which also contains garnet. The laminated sandstone which separates the two ignimbrites also contains garnet suggesting that it was derived, by reworking, from the underlying unit. |
