Description: Troughton Gill, S. bank of River Duddon, upstream of Cockley Beck. Looking E. Cross-stratification and channel in laminated volcaniclastic sandstone. The cross-stratification in the laminated volcaniclastic sandstone, immediately right of the hammer, marks an erosional episode. The channel filled with breccia, to the right is evidence of later erosion. The steep channel wall suggests induration of the laminated sandstone before the channel was cut and filled with breccia.
