Description: Matterdale Beck, south-eastern bank. Looking SW. Basal conglomerate of the Borrowdale Volcanic Group. Rounded to sub-angular clasts are set in a sandy matrix. The pebbles are largely volcanic rocks with some mudstone fragments. The near-vertical cleavage is end-Silurian in age and trends east-north-east.
