Description: NW of Mere. Looking NNE. Chalk escarpment, Mere. The Chalk escarpment at the south-western edge of Salisbury Plain is everywhere prominent. The sharp slope is partly due to the presence of a hard band known as the Chalk Rock (see A5773) which forms the crest of the escarpment.
