| Description: | Foreshore at Little Galley Hill, near Bexhill. Submerged forest (Neolithic forest bed) exposed at low tide. Boles and trunks of trees (many still in position of growth) occur on the present foreshore around low tide mark. They form part of a widespread peat horizon which extends along much of the south coast from Dover to Selsey. This bed was produced by the drowning (due to subsequent rise in sea-level) of woodlands which bordered the coast some 2000-3000 years ago when the sea-level was about 25 ft. lower than that of the present day.
