Description: | Woodhill Bay and Portishead (Battery Point). Looking N. Coast scenery at Portishead. Eroded salt marsh deposits on south side of Portishead Point. These deposits have been built up within the past 20 years by mud and silt trapped by the growth of Spartina townshendi and the subsequent growth of Aster tripolium and other halophytes. These deposits undergo erosion during periods of heavy westerly gales. The photograph shows a section through these deposits up to about a metre thick. |
