Caption: Everley. Looking SSE.
Description: Everley. Looking SSE. Glacial overflow, Forge Valley, Everley. Entrance to Forge Valley (glacial overflow channel) from 'glacial Lake Hackness'. The original valley of the Derwent is seen on the right, bending round to pass out of the picture on the left. When mouth of this was blocked by the coastal ice, the gorge between the wooded heights in the middle of the picture was cut. By this means the Derwent drainage, which when blocked formed 'Lake Hackness', escaped into 'Lake Pickering' (see A5493).
