Description: | High Stacks, Flamborough. Looking N. High Stacks, Flamborough. This is a sea-stack in course of formation. The glacial drift in the valley between High Stacks (right) and the mainland (left) is being rapidly eroded. The skyline here is formed by the sharp arete seen in A5442 and A5443. The surface in the foreground is approximately the top of the flinty chalk. In the immediate foreground there was formerly a lofty Chalk stack known as the Matron. It was illustrated by Phillips in 1851: the date of its disappearance in not known. |
