Description: | Old limestone quarry, 100 yd. E. of Observatory, Observatory Hill, Clifton, Bristol. Looking NNW. Avon Gorge Series. Dip-slope of Clifton Down Limestone. The rocks have south-east dip of about 25 degrees. A series of small gashes resulting from shearing of the rocks are filled with white calcite. These are arranged in a number of linear systems. They are cut by two irregular fissures of veins infilled with calcite. These veins form part of the south-south-east - north-north-west fissure system which traverses the Carboniferous Limestone. Some of these fissures contain Mesozoic material. |
