Description: The Avon Gorge, Bristol. Looking N. General view of gorge from west side of Suspension Bridge. Massive limestone (S Zone) forms cliff on right-hand side and lies above the Avon Thrust, the wooded area to the left of the cliff being occupied by contorted mudstones, sandstones and thin limestones of D Zone. The massive S Zone limestones are seen again below the Avon Thrust (right centre) while the almost vertical cliff in the distance is composed of crinoidal limestone (S Zone).
