Description: Chilworth. Looking N. The Lower Greensand escarpment on the north side of the Peasemarsh anticline. The Lower Greensand in Surrey consists of Folkestone Beds, a sandy series containing much ferruginous sandstone or 'carstone', Bargate Beds, a sandy limestone series, Hythe Beds, mainly sandy, and the Atherfield Clay. The 'carstone' acts as a protective capping at the top of the main scarp, and a subsidiary scarp has been formed half-way down by the Bargate Beds.
