General view of volcanic group, intercalated in Carboniferous Limestone (Black Rock Limestone). The cliff (in shadow) is formed of limestone which also forms a prominent rib (above the main group of the cattle) within the volcanic sequence. The volcanics comprise tuffs with the exception of a massive basalt lava (to right of solitary heifer). The base of the sequence is beyond the left edge of the photograph. |
