Caption: Cliff End. Looking NW.
Description: Cliff End. Looking NW. Type locality of the Cliff End Bone Bed. The bone bed is collected as fallen slabs on the beach. It was previously considered that these were in situ and in the upper Ashdown Beds. Recent mapping has shown that the bone bed occurs with the group of shales, siltstones and 'Tilgate Stone' at the cliff top. The figure stands on material of a recent cliff fall which includes slabs of the bone bed and the lignitic (purplish in photo) top of the 'Cliff End Sandstone'. The head of the figure is at the contact of Wadhurst Clay and Ashdown Beds. The bone bed is a coarse grit including many fish teeth and rare mammalian teeth.
