Owing to the small amount of 'top rubble' at Portland Bill, small quarries have been opened from time to time near the shore line. These can only be worked during the summer months, and the quarry face is frequently washed by sea water. A barricade of stone or of waste 'beach' is generally left to keep out as much sea water as possible. |
