Description: Hillhead Quarry near Buxton. Looking W. Typical thickly-bedded D1 zone shelf limestone (Bee Low Limestones), with interbedded clay beds (wayboards) representing volcanic ash horizons. This quarry, belonging to Tarmac Ltd., was closed in 1973 because of the amount of contamination from clay in the wayboards and open joints.
