Caption: Chesil Beach from the Isle of Portland.
Description: Chesil Beach from the Isle of Portland. Chesil Beach. This ten mile beach extends from Abbotsbury to the Isle of Portland. The pebbles of this huge storm beach are mostly of flint and chert and have been sorted by wave action so that they increase in size eastwards, those at the Portland end being considerably larger than those at Abbotsbury. The beach encloses a large tract of water known as the Fleet which can be seen in the far distance. Portland Harbour is on the right.
