Caption: Sugar Loaf Hill, near Settle.
Description: Sugar Loaf Hill, near Settle. Sugar Loaf Limestone and Shales. The knoll-shaped Sugar Loaf Hill is capped by c. 7 m. of shelly calcilutite (Sugar Loaf Limestone), and underlain by a c. 25 m. sequence of mudstone, decalcified 'plate' and thin limestone beds (Sugar Loaf Shales). This succession is thought to be of Pendleian age, and lies unconformably on early Brigantian strata. The Middle Craven Fault scarp produces the cliff (Malham Formation) on the skyline.
