Description: | Height. The view from Height towards Parson's Pulpit - the highest point on the skyline - gives a good impression of the nature of the Hawes, Gayle and Hardraw Scar Limestones in this area. The Lower Hawes Limestone, in the foreground and immediately north-east of the wall, is characteristically well-rounded. The 'Girvanella' Nodular Bed forms the grassy slope above and the thinly-bedded Upper Hawes Limestone forms the crag in the middle ground. The slack beyond marks the onset of the Gayle Limestone, which is notably variable in thickness. Another major slack below High Scar marks the onset of the Hardraw Scar Limestone with its characteristic cross-bedded units. A sandstone capping forms the summit. |
