Description: Tanfield Gravel Pit (defunct), Steeply Denniff Co. Ltd. Looking NE. The old pit is in an flat-topped gravel hill. Dips revealed in the cliff show a basin-like form. Cobble gravels are interlayered with sand. It is likely that this is a Devensian kame terrace, showing original dips of deposition perhaps modified by melt-out of contained ice.
