Caption: Carle Fell Quarries (middle level) Upper Nidderdale.
Description: Carle Fell Quarries (middle level) Upper Nidderdale. Sandstones in the Scar House Beds (Namurian, E2) have been quarried for the reservoir works at Scar House. The middle level of the quarry is in evenly-bedded sandstones with sole markings, likely to have originated as turbidites. The lower part of the upper level is not visible, but the upper part, chiefly in silty mudstone is clearly seen. The debris on the sub-skyline is from the Lower Follifoot Grit outcrop.
