Description: Slopes of Penhill viewed from Sorrelsykes Park. Looking SE. Alternation of hard and soft strata in beds of Yoredale facies on Penhill have caused a stepped topography. The successive 'treads' of the steps are caused by the following limestones: Foreground - Hawes, monument - Gayle, coppice - Hardraw Scar, distant feature - middle and far distance (right) - Underset.
