Description: SE of Stainton Ground Quarries, E. side of Dunnerdale. Cleavage-bedding intersection in Borrowdale Volcanic Group strata. Borrowdale Volcanic Group rocks that lie in high strain zones are cut by a strong penetrative cleavage imparted in the main Caledonian deformation episode early in the Devonian. This example shows cleavage, inclined steeply to the north-west (left), cutting poorly-bedded volcaniclastic sandstones in the Caw Formation.
