Description: View looking N. from Throstlehow Crag, Upper Eskdale. Sca Fell and Upper Eskdale (Borrowdale Volcanic Group). The high, central peaks of Slight Side, Sca Fell, Scafell Pike and Ill Crag are formed of thick sheets of welded acid ignimbrite mainly of the Airy's Bridge Formation and of reworked volcaniclastic sandstones of the Seathwaite Fell Formation. The crags just beyond the bend in the River Esk (right centre) are of thick, compound flows of basalt within the Birker Fell Formation.
