Description: | Oblique aerial view of the Devil's Point, Lairig Ghru, Inverness-shire. Beyond is the Carn a' Mhaim ridge, Carn Crom on the southern slopes of Derry Cairngorm. The view is typical of the Cairngorms, broad sweeping plateau tops with smooth rolling slopes and shallow valleys that are thought to be relicts of the pre-glacial landscape cut through with deep glacial troughs, the result of powerfully erosive valley glaciers. This is clearly shown in the centre of the photograph, a shallow high-level valley is seen on Carn Crom, it suddenly plunges down a steep glacially-eroded trough, Glen Luibeg. The ice in Glen Luibeg flowed down from a high-level corrie, Lochan Uaine on the east side of Ben Macdui (not seen). |
