Caption: Oblique aerial view of the plateau surface of Braeriach, and the Lochan Uaine in the shadow on the northern slope of Cairn Toul.
Description: The plateau surfaces are one of the most striking features of the Cairngorms and date from the Tertiary Period i.e. before the Quaternary glaciation. Large powerful glaciers formed the deeply carved glacial breach of the Lairig Ghru, while a smaller glacier formed the Lochan Uaine corrie possibly during a period of less extensive glaciation. The deep valley is the Lairig Ghru while to the left is Ben Macdui. The prominent cliffs on the right are on Carn a' Mhaim. In the far distance is Lochnagar.
