Description: | Panoramic view looking south from the summit of Cairngorm looking towards Beinn Macdui, Loch Etchacan, Glen Avon, Cairn Toul, Braeriach, Lurcher's Crag, Cairn Lochan and Coire an t-Sneachda, Inverness-shire. The typical mountain scenery of the Cairngorms is a relic of an ancient Mesozoic to Tertiary planation surface (or surfaces). Broad, level moorlands are cut into by deep glens scarred by gigantic corrie-cliffs. The underlying rocks are the remains of a very large mass of granite intruded deep within the country rocks about 400 million years ago during the Caledonian Orogeny. |
