Caption: Edinburgh panorama from summit of Blackford Hill, looking north-north-east.
Description: Edinburgh panorama from summit of Blackford Hill, looking north-north-east. The foreground is composed of Lower Devonian andesite lavas of Blackford Hill sloping steeply down to glacially-moulded topography of South Edinburgh. In the middle distance from left to right are: the volcanic dolerite plug (Lower Carboniferous) of Castle Rock, forming a 'crag and tail' with the Royal Mile; teschenite sill (Permo-Carboniferous) of Salisbury Craigs; vent agglomerate, intrusions and basaltic lavas (Lower Carboniferous) of Arthur's Seat volcano. In the distance are the Lower Carboniferous volcanic hills of Fife and Inchkeith.
