Description: | Oblique aerial view of the southern end of Glen Farg (Ochil Hills), Lomond Hills beyond, Perthshire. Situated in the north Midland Valley the view looks over part of volcanic Ochil Hills which form part of a major Lower Devonian Caledonian calc-alkaline igneous province, across the Middle Old Red Sandstone low ground towards the scarp of the Lomond Hills. The latter are formed from the major quartz-dolerite Midland Valley Sill while the two prominent peaks are the eroded remnants of volcanic necks standing above the sill. The Lomond Hills igneous rocks were intruded during a major period of igneous activity that occurred in the Carboniferous and extending into the Lower Permian. |
