Description: Oblique aerial view north along Glen Isla from near Bewlands Bridge, Perthshire. Glaciated Dalradian scenery of the southern Grampian Highlands. Glen Isla is one of the five Angus glens all of which have individual morphological characteristics. The view illustrates the morphological contrast between the lower (broad and open) and (more constricted and more evidently glaciated) upper parts of the glen. The summit of Mount Blair is visible on the left-hand edge in the middle distance. As in Glenshee bedrock is almost entirely Dalradian metamorphic rocks. In the foreground are schistose psammites and green beds (volcaniclastic greywackes) of the Southern Highland Group. Most of the bedrock to the north comprises units of the Mount Blair and Loch Tay Limestone formations which are repeated by the Mount Blair Anticline, a major D1 fold whose axial trace crosses the glen immediately south of Mount Blair. Bedrock is largely obscured by glacial till on the lower slopes and by a ribbon of glaciofluvial sand and gravel and alluvium on the valley floor.
