Description: | Oblique aerial view of the Bridge of Cally, Strathardle and Glenshee, Perthshire. Glaciated Dalradian scenery of the southern Highlands. The photograph is taken near Drimmie looking westwards to the pyramidial shaped peak of Schiehallion. The main drainage element, the River Ericht flowing down the prominent valley of Strathardle is joined just east of Bridge of Cally, in the middle distance by the Black Water issuing from Glenshee to the right. Drimmie lies just to the north of the Highland Boundary Fault so most of the area is underlain by psammites and semipelites of the Dalradian Southern Highland Group. However, bedrock in the immediate foreground comprises early Devonian andesite lavas which here overstep the fault. The rather unspectacular smooth topography in the foreground and middle distance is a combination of essentially flat-lying Dalradian rocks and blanket till. Spreads of glaciofluvial sand and gravel and alluvium cover much of the valley floor. |
