Description: | The Dasses, a basalt sill, Arthur's Seat, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, Midlothian. This is an eastwards-dipping dolerite sill of Dunsapie-type olivine basalt on the margins of the Arthur's Seat vent. It is intruded into shales, cementstones and sandstones of the Ballagan Formation, Inverclyde Group, which underlie the lava pile. Long Row, the basal lava flow, consists of Dunsapie-type basalt and can be seen on the left skyline. The Lion's Head vent intrusion, with a plug of Dalmeny-type olivine basalt is the pointed hill on the skyline. |
