Description: Lava flows and sill intrusions, Arthur's Seat, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, Midlothian. The Lion's Head vent intrusion, with a plug of Dalmeny-type basalt (numerous small phenocrysts of olivine, fewer augites and occasional labradorite plagioclase) is the pointed hill on the right skyline. Long Row, forming the skyline on the left, is a lava flow (No. 1). The Dasses, in the centre of photograph at the far end of the footpath, is a sill of Dunsapie-type basalt (macroporphyritic, with phenocrysts of plagioclase, augite and olivine).
