Description: | Looking north-west from River Avon/M9 motorway, Linlithgow area, West Lothian. Moundy deposits of glaciofluvial sand and gravel forming part of a large spread between Linlithgow and Polmont. In the centre ground, the River Avon flows in the incised tree-lined valley. The giant Grangemouth petrochemical complex can be seen in the left background. On the right horizon, just beyond the waters of the Firth of Forth, the tall chimney of the Longannet coal-fired power station can be discerned. In general, glaciofluvial deposits tend to give a light soil which is good for arable farming, as testified by the the numerous harvested fields in the area. |
