Description: Grind of the Navir, north-west corner of the Esha Ness peninsula, Shetland Isles. A cliff top exposure of Old Red Sandstone age ignimbrite. Cliffs and bare high-level platform of ignimbrite with small loch. Block of ignimbrite forming part of a high-level storm beach in the foreground. The ignimbrite is a welded tuff formed as a result of deposition by 'nuees ardentes' an explosive high temperature form of volcanic eruption, the tuff material being so hot on deposition that the edges of the fragments tend to weld together.
